Connected Community

 |
Actors Ethan Marrell and Kat Shaw rehearse one of Constable Care's new plays for 2012 entitled 'Connected'. Fellow performer Charlene Short looks on.
As we enter a new school year, Constable Care has developed a number of fresh scripts and performances which reflect the changing issues affecting local communities in Western Australia.
In addition to new performances confronting the issues of cyber bullying and arson, Constable Care has produced a challenging script around the theme of community mindedness.
'Connected' aims to educate primary school children about the importance of being a responsible member of their local community. And importantly, how to do this is a safe manner.
The ‘Connected’ script has been written for middle to upper primary school students. The main protagonist, James, sees something happening in his local area that makes him suspicious; he is conflicted about how best to confront it. The performance covers themes and issues including theft, personal responsibility, home security and the consequences of not speaking up when we are a witness to something we know is wrong. The play covers how to identify warning signs and teaches children how to make a difference through safe and effective decision making.
‘Connected’ has been developed in partnership with the City of Joondalup as part of a collaborative approach to tackling real issues and safety priorities of local communities. This play, along with ‘Spark, an arson theme developed with the City of Swan and ‘Forward’ (cyber bullying theme) will be three new plays rolled-out in WA primary schools throughout 2012.

Santa, Snags and Sunshine in South Perth

My Kitchen Rules!
Constable Care and his South Perth sous-chefs take a break from the BBQ
The Constable Care Child Safety Foundation receives support from a number of Western Australian Rotary Clubs, so when Constable Care heard that South Perth Rotary were sizzling snags at the South Perth Christmas Market to raise money in his name, he jumped in the squad car and headed-on-down to Mends Street to say "thank you and merry Christmas" in person.
It was a beautiful morning and the smell of sausages mingled with the sounds of Christmas carols in the warm December air. Constable Care was spotted perusing the Christmas Market stalls, chatting to locals and joining in the carol singing outside Millstream Arcade before following his nose to the sausage sizzle. From Mill Point Road to the river, Mends Street bustled with Christmas shoppers throughout the morning, and by lunchtime the residents of South Perth were heading off with full bellies and even fuller shopping bags.
The Constable Care Child Safety Foundation would like to extend their thanks to the Rotary Clubs across Western Australia for their continued support. Their generosity, and that of our other regular supporters, enables us to ensure our service continues to reach over 160,000 kids every year.
